What a lot of fun - so great to see such a good response, and so many different projects happening! If you didn’t come - come next time, you will have a great time.

Jean Jones has certainly made us all proud by putting together the red double maple leaf blocks that many Guild members sewed. She did an outstanding job and it looked fantastic hanging at the Fort on Monday the 8th. Thanks also to Debra Sanderson for the beautiful quilting and to Nora Fursevich for sewing on the binding so quickly. Hopefully all Guild members will come to the Fort after the maple leaf quilt and the Olympic quilts are displayed in the Big White House, at the Fort, from February 12-28. Congratulations to all members who made Olympic quilts and to Jean.

I had comments from many ladies today who thought it was just what a guild should be like. They loved the opportunity to quilt together and to see what everyone else was working on. They hope the guild will always be able to continue this.
My thanks go out to the Executive for supporting this venture.
What other comments do you quilters have?

A good friend of mine has a Pfaff Creative 1475 CD sewing machine for sale that belonged to an elderly quilter named Eva McLeod. The machine sells at the Pfaff store on Granville for $1500, but she would consider any reasonable offers as all the money raised from Eva’s quilting/sewing supplies is going to the Harambee Project (see below). Her friends have already sold off all her quilting fabric and notions with all the proceeds going to Harambee .If you are at all interested, please contact Ann Kergan at iakergan@telus.net
HARAMBEE PROJECT
The Harambee Project was started/founded by Lorie Williams of New Westminster. Having volunteered her time in Kenya to assist in a school for girls she discovered that many young girls could not attend because they could not afford the fees, uniforms, books etc. She was very upset and decided to do something about it. Thus she began sending letters etc to friends to send money to assist. (Lorie’s job was to tell the families of these girls that they could no longer attend because they had not paid their school fees!) The project grew and grew. One girl requires $400 per year to attend. The average length of stay is 4 years = $1600.00. All money donated goes directly to the tuition etc of the student. Delta Kappa Gamma Society International - our Beta Chapter (Burnaby) sponsors one student until completion. With the money we raise from the sale of Eva McLeod’s quilting/sewing supplies we hope to sponsor one more student for the full four year term. It is a rewarding project - we receive letters from our student and feel somewhat connected as several of our members have gone to Africa and volunteered. They have shown slides and information about the project so we all feel it is worthwhile and a great credit to Lorie Williams for starting the project in the first place. I hope this will help in the sale of the sewing machine! Warmly, Ann
The quilting frame is 32″x44″ (rectangular), and 30 1/2″ high. It is made of white plastic tubing, and comes unassembled (with instructions for assembly). The asking price is $50.00.

Congratulations to the group that created such a stunning raffle quilt. You did an amazing job. Also, thank you for Buying Canadian! I think that’s awesome and something that’s worth considering for all guild purchases.
Congratulations to Barbara Beetles for creating such an eye catching and professional quilt show poster.

Bouquets of roses and daisies to the organizers of our Fifth Anniversary Retreat. Loved the earlier start so we could have more time to get organized and sew, the food and snacks were healthier and better than before, making placemats for our “secret sisters” was much more preferable to making name tags (I always had a long name!) and it was super having a separate ironing room. Enjoyed not having to stop for games and prizes all the time. Thanks for all the work you did to make our week-end so special. Nancy
LQG and it’s Kourageous Kids project will be featured in the winter edition of Quilter’s Connections Magazine. This magazine, launched in September, is now being distributed nationally. Heather McArthur, a Burnaby resident, took over “Connections” after the previous owners retired.

Another great effort by our Publicity person to make this happen! Thanks Barbara.

I am asking $40.00 for the 4 above items.
If anyone is interested, please e-mail me back at smantei@shaw.ca
